A Student Visa is required by all candidates who enter Australia with the purpose of completing a course of full time study for a period of more than three months. An information pack and the relevant application forms can be obtained from your nearest Australian Embassy or Consulate, or by visiting the Department of Immigration.
The AFTC operates under the Flight Training Adelaide Commonwealth Register of Institutions & Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) provider code is 02649J. Our visa subclass is 572, Vocational Education and Training (VET).
To be issued with a Student Visa, students need to submit the following items:
A valid passport
A Completed Application for a student (temporary) visa
4 recent passport photographs
Confirmation of Enrolment (which is provided by FTA)
Evidence of Overseas Student Medical Cover
The relevant Visa application processing fee (current charges are available from the Australian Embassy or Consulate)
Evidence of sufficient funds to cover the cost of the course and general living expenses
Most students will be required to undertake a health examination and chest x-ray with an approved Australian Immigration Doctor. A list of approved Immigration Doctor’s can be obtained from your nearest Australian Embassy or Consulate
Evidence of suitable English language proficiency, which may require completion of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test. For more information please visit IELTS.
Processing times can vary between offices; however students should allow 10 to 12 weeks to ensure that their Visa will be issued well in advance before their planned departure to Australia. Please note that some offices have longer processing times than this.
Visa Related Information
Deposit and Confirmation of Enrolment
To be issued with a “Confirmation of Enrolment†(CoE), you must complete the appropriate AFTC application form and once this is accepted you will need to arrange to pay a course deposit. The amount required would depend on which course is chosen. Usually a deposit of AUD5000 is required for a CPL Course, and this deposit will go towards the first part of your training. After a student has been accepted to commence training and has paid the deposit, a CoE is issued by Flight Training Adelaide to assist with your Student Visa application.
Overseas Student Medical Cover
It is a condition of your student visa that you have private health insurance for the duration of your stay in Australia. You need to obtain Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for yourself and provide evidence to your nearest Australian Embassy or Consulate processing your visa application. English Language
Students undertaking pilot training in Australia are required to have sufficient English language skills. Evidence of this may need to be provided with your visa application, and usually an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is required, We require an English proficiency IELTS score of 5.5 or higher to undertake training. Your nearest Australian Embassy or Consulate can provide you with further details, and a list of approved testing centres. For more information please visit IELTS.
Students who do not have the required level of English may choose to enroll in an appropriate English language course here in Adelaide, prior to their flying training program. Details of an English Language course can be provided on request.
Australian Customs Service
When travelling to Australia, please be aware that if you are carrying a total of AUD$10,000 or more in cash of any currency, you MUST declare the money on your Incoming Passenger Card and when questioned by Australian Customs officials upon arrival. A failure to declare this money may result in the money being taken and you being arrested and prosecuted. It is not an offence to bring this money into Australia. The offence is not declaring the money.

The Adelaide Flight Training Centre is a non-residential school. Below are some popular accommodation choices for students.
Torrens Valley International Residence
Torrens Valley International Residence is situated in the grounds of the Modbury Hospital, a 20-minute drive east of Parafield Airport. The residence offers single room accommodation (equipped with single beds, built in cupboards and drawers and a well-lit study area), with shared lounge (including television), kitchen, laundry and bathroom facilities on each floor. Students are able to prepare their own meals, or eat at the Hospital Cafeteria, which is open 7 days a week. A security system is in place, which provides a safe and secure environment for residents to live. The Residence is adjacent to Tea Tree Plaza shopping centre, with easy access to banks, cinemas and shopping. The Residence is a 5-minute walk to a major public transport terminus, which allows you easy access to the city centre. UNIShare
For those who prefer a more independent lifestyle, UNIShare is a specialist provider of private shared accommodation for students. UNIShare offers a comprehensive rental package, covering all utilities, broadband, plus cleaning and gardening services at no extra cost. Colliers International Student Services
Colliers International Student Services has numerous well located and well sought after Student Accommodation facilities throughout Adelaide and Australia. Colliers has recently acquired the management rights of a students complex at Mawson Lakes called UV Mawson Lakes. Mawson Lakes which is located about 10 min drive from the AFTC. Additional public transport convenience is the railway connection between Mawson Lakes and the AFTC. The UV Mawson Lakes Apartment complex comprises of 39 purpose built student accommodation apartments. The property is in the heart of Mawson Lakes - a short walk to the town centre, shopping and entertainment facilities. UV Mawson Lakes has 2 and 3 bedroom apartments available with prices varying from $135-140 per person per week. This price includes water usage and cleaning twice a month of the living areas, kitchens and bathrooms (not bedrooms). Electricity, Telephone and Internet connection are at the expense of the students. The apartments are strictly non smoking and students will need to supply their own linen/bedding. The apartments are air conditioned and fully furnished with beds, sofa, coffee table, wardrobes and beside cabinets. Students will need to contact Colliers direct to lease an apartment. Colliers will endeavour to put students from the AFTC in the same apartment. Rental will be paid monthly direct to Colliers with a 5 weeks security bond.
